Traditionally membrane filtration is used for removal of bacteria and turbidity from surface and ground water, sometimes combined with a prior physical-chemical pretreatment. Also there is an increasing demand this technology due to more and more seawater desalination plants using reverse osmosis which require robust and sturdy MF / UF pretreatmet of the raw water.

In 2016 Atec delivered the first drinking water treatment plant completely mounted inside a 20 foot standard container to a customer in Iran. In 2017 and 2018 further projects followed in the field of driniking water treatment. Among others, sturdy small scale units for mobile drinking water supply in disaster and emergency areas.
